FOOD CONNECT SHED
This facade rebuild opened up the community hub, "Food Connect Shed", to the street giving new life to a heavily damaged street face. With a new roof pitch and frontage, the building now engages with the neighbourhood and admits cooling breezes, parkland views and daylight deep into the building.
Designed in collaboration with Landings Studio's Emma Healy, we worked with a tight budget, guiding creative solutions to the 'least necessary' constraint. The project makes use of salvaged materials, including remilled blackbutt timber used as cladding (found on site from the Shed's prior life). Secondhand light shades were repurposed as wall lights, insulation was added and wall openings were created with off-the-shelf garage door units clad to be insulating and provide diffuse light when closed.
The Food Connect Shed is a constantly evolving food and community hub and the adaptation of the facade enables greater flexibility of use.
