About Emma

An architect, adventurer, writer, photographer, I work next door to my home in Monto, Central Queensland, but have worked on projects as far away as Ecuador and England.  I enjoy travelling to the far corners of the state and beyond to work on architecture and writing commissions.

Emma Scragg Architect was first born as Earthly Designs in 1990 when I designed the Wild Mountains Environmental Education Centre.  I enjoy the challenge of a tight budget and creative solutions for making existing and new buildings more pleasurable and sustainable to live in. 

I have spent many years working for Riddel Architecture on larger budget, residential and public conservation projects, hospitality, commercial, interior design, extensions and alterations and new sustainable homes including the Hill End Ecohouse. 

I gained much knowledge from visiting sustainable housing and other community and environmental building projects around the world in England, Wales, Ecuador, Mexico and north America as well as in Adelaide, northern New South Wales, Tasmania and southeast Queensland.  My cycle tour in 2009 (www.esdcycle.blogspot.com) from Alaska to Oregon visited many cohousing, ecovillage and adaptive reuse projects.  

I enjoy writing regularly for Sanctuary magazine, published by Renew, and learn much from the sustainable homes I visit and photograph.
